Simple Winter Comforts
What is it about the melodies associated with a tea kettle in the wintertime? The ting of the metal as you loosen the lid? The gentle rush of water as it streams from the faucet? The clang of the kettle as it unites with the grate? The click of the burner as it erupts into flame? The hiss of the steam as it wakes up the house? The dunk of the bag as it enriches the water? The hushed slurpy sound of a satisfying sip?
What is it about craggy icicles flash-frozen to wrought iron fences? And snowy knit mittens cuddled on warm kitchen registers?
What is it about maple flavored snow that helps to soothe icy-hot-itches on ankles and toes, and hot cocoa mustaches on kids’ rosy faces?
What is it about sloshy boots on woolen runners and quilted coats hung from cast iron hooks?
What is it about brimming buckets of logs on Friday nights with stacks of romantic comedies, pasta fagioli, and nowhere to be but home?
What is it about long walks on cold nights under coral-colored skies with the one you love?
Wishing you a winter filled with slow and simple comforts, my friends!
Annie

Merriest of holidays, Kevin!!
As always, you transport me somewhere with your words. I’m back in Syracuse, digging my car out of the snow, but in a good way that makes me feel Christmas-y :). Merry Christmas to you and your family, Annie!
